The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will continue normal operations in the event of a partial shutdown of the federal government commencing on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Unless Congress enacts an appropriations bill or a continuing resolution, the court will enter shutdown operations on Thursday, February 5, 2026. This status limits operations to only excepted activities necessary to the exercise of the judiciary’s constitutional functions. This will remain the operational status until Congress acts.
Cases calendared for oral argument during the months of February and March will proceed as scheduled. Parties remain obligated to meet all scheduled deadlines for filing and comply with the filing requirements of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure and this court’s Local Rules.
