The Online System for Clerkship Application and Review (“OSCAR”) enables clerkship applicants to select among participating federal judges to whom they wish to apply and then build and submit their applications online. Applicants upload cover letters, resumes, transcripts, and writing samples and submit electronic requests for recommendation letters to their recommenders. OSCAR electronically invites the recommenders to log onto the system and create and upload letters of recommendation on behalf of the applicants. When the applications are complete, judges who are participating in the program log on and sort through applications.
The first attached link below leads to the portion of the OSCAR web site showing the judges who have elected to participate in OSCAR. The second link leads to the OSCAR web site home page. The web site answers questions about the program and explains how prospective law clerk applicants may register to participate.
Not all federal judges have elected to use OSCAR. Therefore, applicants must submit “paper” applications to judges who have not opted to participate. It is unknown how many of the participating judges will use OSCAR exclusively.
However, Judges who use OSCAR will adhere to the same deadlines prescribed in the Law Clerk Hiring Plan.
