Marilyn Sargent was appointed Chief Deputy Clerk of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in June 1990. In addition to her Chief Deputy duties, Ms. Sargent served for over 12 years as the primary clerk for the Special Division for the Appointment of Independent Counsel. Ms. Sargent handles the logistical and administrative issues related to managing high-profile cases and serves as the Court’s Security Officer.
Ms. Sargent began her career as a Research Associate at Georgetown University Law Center’s Institute for Criminal Law and Procedure. From 1979 through 1990, she served in various administrative and management positions with the D.C. Superior Court, the D.C. Attorney General’s Office (formerly called the Office of the Corporation Counsel), and the D.C. Department of Administrative Services. Ms. Sargent earned her Bachelor of Arts from the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland and completed additional graduate course work in Court Administration at American University.
